HOW DALEX SWIFTHoops LIT THE KOFORIDUA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
The SWIFThoops train recently made a stopover in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, and gave the students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) a refreshing opportunity to experience the Dalex sponsored 3-on-3 basketball tournament for tertiary institutions.
The school’s basketball court became the centre of attraction as eight campus-based basketball teams made up of active young men pitched their skills and weight against one another in a hot contest over the enviable SWIFThoops trophy, bragging right, medals and amazing cash prizes that came with the competition.
After a series of thrilling encounters through the group, quarterfinals and semifinal stages, ‘Team Bulls’ triumphed over the others. The team literally ‘crashed’ all the others that came their way and won the tournament convincingly; the bragging right is now theirs. The trophy will be in their custody until the SWIFThoops train returns another time.
‘Team X-Crazy’ came second but vowed in a silent fervor to ‘avenge’ the painful defeat when next the SWIFThoops opportunity presents itself. Other teams that participated were Wolverines, Wakanda, Sweat, Lebron and Skeleton.
SWIFThoops is a Dalex SWIFT initiative which introduces a fresh angle to basketball in Ghana through 3-on-3 basketball competitions. Three-on-three basketball is one of the fastest growing urban sports worldwide.
It provides a platform for the exhibition and promotion of talent amidst competition. SWIFThoops is presently sponsoring a 3-on-3 league competition in selected tertiary institutions.
University Ghana, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Koforidua and the Kumasi Technical Universities have so far taken their turn. Watch out for the train in your school/alma matter.
